After much anticipation, a student-designed solar sculpture has been installed at Exploria Stadium, home of Orlando City Soccer and Orlando Pride. The sculpture was designed by 11 studio art and engineering students as part of a challenge posed by OUC for the Advanced Design Lab (AdLab) class in the spring of 2018.
UCF students (now alumni) involved were mechanical engineering majors Erin Dudley, James Exum and Ramin Ragbir; electrical engineering majors Denis Aybar, Juan Forero, Simon McGlynn and Daniel Truong; and studio art majors Kealey Keepers, Gabby Mancini, Joel Rouff and Joel Zorowitz. Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering Robert Hoekstra and Professor of Art Robert Reedy advised students during the process.
“UCF’s Advanced Design Lab, with its interdisciplinary students, demonstrates the connection between the arts and sciences,” Reedy said. “We believe everybody in the classroom has a creative spirit, and they do. You’d be surprised where the ideas come from.”
