Leading a score of diverse ensemble events at UCF Celebrates the Arts, Inuksuit will immerse performers and audiences alike in a unique percussion experience. Musicians will start at the stage and gradually move to surround the audience for an immersive sound experience. Leveraging the natural sounds of the audience and environment, Inuksuit has been hailed by the New York Times as “the ultimate environmental piece.” The UCF Percussion Ensemble will present the concert-length performance by John Luther Adams on Wednesday, April 7 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. UCF Bands Presents Dances and Celebrations: A Celebration of Diversity – Thursday, April 8
Scott Lubaroff, director of bands, praises the diversity of pieces in “Dances and Celebrations: A Celebration of Diversity.” He says of the performance, “The combined programs of the UCF Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble include works entirely by African-American, Afro-Hispanic, Latino and female composers, and the concert finale is a beautiful and exciting work entitled Come Sunday, by Omar Thomas, celebrating the rich and central role of the Hammond organ in the black worship service.” Purchase tickets here.
Flying Horse Big Band – Friday, April 9
The Flying Horse Big Band will perform its chart-topping jazz performances under the direction of saxophonist and American jazz musician Jeff Rupert. Known for performing in festivals and concert halls regionally and nationally, the Flying Horse Big Band is composed of students in UCF’s jazz studies program. Purchase tickets here.
UCF Symphony Orchestra – Saturday, April 10
The UCF Symphony Orchestra will delight audiences with Mother and Child, a piece by trailblazing American composer William Grant Still, the chamber orchestra version of Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 and other pieces by Mahler and Tchaikovsky. Purchase tickets here.
