BFA film student Tyler Marino produced the award-winning documentary Code 9 that will be featured at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Florida.
A groundbreaking Documentary Film, Code 9 explores the darker side of law enforcement as it tells the stories of police officers who are suffering the mental anguish of the careers they chose. Code 9 explores the impacts of trauma First Responders deal with on the job, which can result in PTSD and suicide.
Tyler Marino talks about the experience of producing Code 9:
“Soon after I was accepted into the BFA Film program at UCF, I started producing the feature documentary Code 9: Officer Needs Assistance. It was an amazing experience to work with the director, Deborah Ortiz, on this project; her passion for this project is contagious … It was incredibly helpful to be in the film program while working on this documentary, because I was able utilize a multitude of filmmaking techniques that I learned from the faculty.”
To date, Code 9 has received accolades as winner of the Audience Choice—Feature at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival, Award of Merit from the IndieFEST Film Awards, Laurel of Excellence from the TBAE Film Showcase and nomination for Best Documentary at the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival.
Code 9 is an Official Selection for the Gasparilla International Film Festival screening April 1, 2016.
