The sixth annual UCF Celebrates the Arts festival will be held April 6-19, 2020 at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Building upon the festival’s growing success, the festival steering committee has selected anchor events for the 2020 festival. These include:
- In the Disney theater:
- a concert by the Flying Horse Big Band with
- a concert by the UCF Symphony Orchestra featuring a multimedia composition about oceanic noise pollution by Stella Sung
- a dance concert from Theatre UCF
- the National Young Composers Challenge Composium
- a choral concert and invitational
- a band invitational and concert by the UCF Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band
- a percussion invitational and concert by the UCF Percussion Ensemble
- In the Pugh/DeVos:
- a cabaret by Theatre UCF
- an opera from UCF Opera (piece TBA)
- a Shakespeare reading from Orlando Shakes
- a chamber music performance by UCF faculty
- events/exhibits related to the NEA Big Read selection (The Things They Carried)
- In the lobby spaces:
- a exhibit of art by Dorothy Gillespie from the UCF Gallery vault
- a digital media showcase
- Other events and exhibits are being planned, but have yet to be added to this list pending final details.
The committee is seeking additional events to fill several spots on the schedule, as well as visual art and interactive exhibits that will showcase the best from UCF students and faculty and bring attention to our year-round activities on campus. Of particular interest are events that relate to the existing programming.
If you have an event or exhibition that you wish to include in UCF Celebrates the Arts, please contact Michael Wainstein by September 13. The ideas for these events can come out of classes; outside projects by faculty, students or alumni; or collaborative works associated with the university. Please note that the person suggesting an event/exhibit will also be responsible for the coordination and may need to cover production expenses.

Central to the event’s mission is:
- Showcasing the work and talents of students and faculty from UCF and the College of Arts & Humanities
- Presenting events that are interdisciplinary within or beyond the walls of CAH
- Presenting 1-3 key events that are large in scope, that will attract attention nationally or regionally and will be major audience draws
- Presenting innovative, high-quality events and happenings that are unexpected, premieres or incapable of being produced elsewhere
