John Shafer’s play Hunting the Basilisk is currently being performed by the Looking for Lilith Theatre Company at The Rudyard Kipling in Louisville, KY. The play was first introduced at UCF as part of Women’s History Month. The UCF Women’s Studies and Theatre departments were sponsors and UCF students originated the roles.

Shafer describes Hunting the Basilisk as a “celebration of life, an expression of hope and an opportunity for women.” It is the first play that the Looking for Lilith Theatre Company has produced that was not directly commissioned for the company. Looking for Lilith is dedicated to re-examining history through women’s perspectives and is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Kentucky Arts Council and the Ford Foundation.

The production is receiving positive reviews, including from The Arts Louisville, which calls the script “well-written” and “very literate.” The complete review can be found at The Arts Louisville.
