While matriculating in the UCF Film MFA program, John Goshorn, MFA ‘12 developed and produced The Happiest Place on Earth, a feature film that has since earned five official selections from festivals around the United States. The film world-premiered at the 25th annual Cineguest Film Festival in San Jose, CA and will continue to screen at the upcoming Orlando Film Festival and Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
The Happiest Place on Earth aims to draw parallels between the American Dream and the fairytale, reveal the limitations of both, and raise the question of what ideology should replace them, on screen and in our lives.
Goshorn states, “Making The Happiest Place on Earth was facilitated by the academic context of the MFA program in Entrepreneurial Digital Cinema, which not only provided access to crew and some equipment and facilities, but also served as a laboratory environment in which to test all the thinking I have ever done about filmmaking. That laboratory environment is one of the only contexts in the cinema that allows risks to be taken simply for the potential learning that such risk-taking might facilitate.”
