Orlando’s performing arts community, including the UCF School of Performing Arts, will offer a variety of events to entertain, educate and celebrate throughout Black History Month.
From February 17–27, Theatre UCF will present Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, a satirically cautionary tale of struggling to understand what it means to be a Black woman in today’s society. Roberta Emerson, visiting lecturer and Director of New Play Development with Orlando Shakes, will direct the show. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, the play explores what Black “success” looks like in a predominantly white society.
On February 27, the 7th annual MLK Concert, presented by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, will take place at Dr. Phillips Center’s new Steinmetz Hall. Grammy Award winner Jeffery Redding, director of choral activities for the School of Performing Arts, will direct this free event.
