The “golden age of piracy,” the period of time from the 1650s until the 1730s, saw “cutlass-wielding, rum drinking pirates… roaming around the Caribbean, and then further ahead,” states ABC News.

About the Caribbean, history professor David Head says it was “relatively lawless.” He continues, “It was far from Europe, so it took a lot of effort for the various European countries to enforce any kind of law and order.”
