The art of Ryan Buyssens will be on display at the World Maker Faire in New York City, September 20- 21.
Buyssens is an artist, designer and inventor who makes kinetic art inspired by his own curiosities about various phenomena.
He will be exhibiting devices of his own design called intertropes. They resemble zoetropes, 19th-century optical toys that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs. Buyssens’s devices do not need shutters, slits, mirrors or strobes to portray their 2D or 3D animation.
Buyssens will also display his interactive sculptures of stylized bird-wings. These robotic wings respond to the presence of their viewers and flap in a realistic, fully articulated manner. The wings simultaneously invite and intimidate with their graceful, fluid motion contrasted by the direct reactivity of their activation.
Buyssens has participated in previous Maker Faires in Austin, TX, Raleigh, NC and Charlottesville, VA.
