Recent graduate Kate Weddle (B.A., 2010) was accepted into the Art Directors Guild’s new Production Apprentice Program.
Kate is one of only four inductees in the program’s inaugural class. She was selected from a pool of more than 90 applicants.
Weddle, a writer and designer, specialized in Character Animation while earning her B.A. in Digital Media – Visual Language. After graduating from UCF and moving to the west coast, Kate entered the American Film Institute and received her M.F.A. in Production Design this spring. She has also worked as a professional graphic designer and art director in print and other media, developing her skills in 3-D rendering and concept designs.
The Production Apprentice program is the first of its kind formed by a Hollywood crafts guild. It is designed to provide those with the most talent, imagination and leadership qualities in the field with a clear, supervised path to full membership in the Art Directors Guild.
Tom Walsh, co-chair of the program, remarks, “This is the first time that a leading West Coast craft guild has instituted such a comprehensive program and in reviewing their portfolios it is easy to predict that these young designers and those who will follow them into this program are destined to be the future leaders of our profession and Guild.”
